Flashpoint: Protests, Policing and Press

The film features the stories of several journalists who were assaulted or arrested while reporting at protests and explores the conflict and tension experienced on the front lines, the changing role of the press, and the hardening of attitudes among the police towards journalists.
I edited this film. We also used footage from my archives from 2016 - 2022, from elections and protests in Washington D.C., NYC and Minneapolis.
Flashpoint premiered with the Los Angeles Times in May of 2024. It simultaneously premiered at the Independent Film Festival Boston, where it won an audience award for documentary shorts.
Directed by Max Esposito and Produced by Daisy Schmitt.
Commissioned by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University and acquired by the Los Angeles Times.
